These are the first images of a new multimillion-pound waste facility that is being planned for Aberdeen.
The proposed £120million incinerator, which would serve households in the city, Aberdeenshire, and Moray, would be built on a derelict industrial site at East Tullos.
Consultations are well underway for the controversial service amid concerns no alternatives have been explored.
Now, Aberdeen City Council has released two images which show what the plant would look like ahead of two exhibitions showcasing the facility today.
Council representatives and technical advisers will be available at the drop-in events in Aberdeen to answer questions and provide further information.
Councillor Jean Morrison, convener of the authority’s zero waste sub committee, said it is important local people make their views known.
“I would encourage local residents to engage with the council during the upcoming drop-in consultation events and make their views known prior to the submission of the planning application,” she said.
“Most of the waste in this region is currently going to landfill, which is unsustainable in environmental terms and does not allow for the recovery of any value from the waste collected.
“This reliable and proven technology, used successfully elsewhere in the UK and across Europe, will compliment rather than detract from existing recycling schemes and will reduce the cost of sending waste to landfill, help to tackle fuel poverty and allow the three local authorities to meet national legislative obligations.”
It is intended that the facility would serve the city, Aberdeenshire, and Moray – all three authorities have signed up to fund the project.
The development would will process non- recyclables to help generate heat and power by converting the waste to energy.
Concerns have previously been raised by opponents of the scheme that the development could have a detrimental impact on the environment and the health of people living nearby.
The first event, which runs from 10am to 9pm, will be held at St Fittick’s Parish Church on Walker Road.
Another event is also being held in the Grandholm Suite of the Aberdeen Altens Hotel on Souterhead Road from noon to 9pm.
A planning application is expected to be submitted once the consultation process is complete.
