A schoolboy and three adults were taken to hospital yesterday after a bus and lorry crashed on one of the north-east’s busiest roads.
The vehicles collided on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road at its junction with the B9009 Newburgh to Pitmedden road, and caused traffic chaos for about an hour and a half.
The incident involving a Stagecoach bus and an articulated lorry happened just before 8am and the road remained closed until 9.20am, with traffic diverted onto the on the B9000.
A man in his 80s, another in his 60s and a woman in her 20s were also taken to ARI along with the eight-year-old boy, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
Police, fire and rescue and ambulance services were all called to the scene.
An ambulance spokesman said: “We received an emergency call shortly after 8am to attend the location at the Newburgh junction and we took multiple ambulances as well as a special response operations team.
“We conveyed four casualties to hospital, three adults and one child – all in a stable condition. There was nothing to suggest it is anything serious.
“There was a male in his 80s, a male in his 60s, a female in her 20s and an eight-year-old child.”
Last night Stagecoach confirmed it would be launching its own investigation into the incident.
A spokeswoman said: “One of our vehicles was involved in a collision with another vehicle this morning on the A90.
“We are thankful there were no serious injuries as a result of this incident. Passenger safety is our absolute priority and we will be assisting police with their investigation as well as launching our own internal investigation.”
