An Aberdeenshire primary has been praised by councillors after receiving a positive report from a national education body.
Auchenblae School and Nursery was inspected in June this year by Education Scotland, which hailed its ties to the local community and its “well-motivated, polite, enthusiastic” pupils.
Yesterday head teacher John Forrester appeared before councillors to discuss on-going work to maintain the standards at the school.
Inspectors also praised the transition process between the nursery class and the primary and the “accessible environment” of the school and its grounds.
They added teachers should now ensure children at all levels are “challenged to attain as highly as possible”.
Mr Forrester said: “All in all the inspection was fair. We had to do a lot of work in literacy and numeracy frameworks. We have done a lot of work in school improvement plans.
“We did feel where we’d need to go next is working with local community partners. Overall we are very happy with where we are.”
Mearns councillor George Carr said: “It is a very encouraging and very well deserved report for Auchenblae.”
Chairwoman of the education, leisure and learning committee Alison Evison said: “It is very good to see this type of report come forward. It is great to hear about the journey you are on and I wish you all the best going forward.”
