Secondary school pupils from across the north-east are currently undertaking a series of projects being hosted by TechFest, Maths in the Pipeline.
The events provide students with an overview of the global oil and gas industry, by testing them with a series of geology challenges and algorithms.
Industry mentors have also engaged students using real data, giving pupils a genuine insight into the oil and gas industry.
Molly Imrie, STEM coordinator with TechFest, said: “TechFest is delighted to return with Maths in the Pipeline with the support of sponsors BP, Chevron & SPE Aberdeen branch.
“Maths in the Pipeline is proving ever more popular and this year we have taken the event on the road, visiting schools in Inverness, Elgin and Perthshire.”
Wendy Slimane, BP’s community affairs, education and events manager, said: “BP is pleased to continue our support of Maths in the Pipeline which gives pupils the opportunity to engage with specialists from a range of disciplines and see how the STEM skills they are learning in school are applied in industry.”
