Council bosses have offered assurances that there will be no job losses despite the need to slash £17million for the budget next year.
Speaking ahead of today’s pre-budget meeting, co-leaders Martin Kitts-Hayes and Richard Thomson said council employees will remain in their posts.
The two senior councillors have laid out ambitious plans to build a new secondary school in Peterhead and believe significant sums of money can be saved by closing and selling off local authority offices.
Mr Kitts-Hayes said: “A lot of councils have already come out and said they will be making 500 or 1,000 or 1,500 staff redundant. We won’t be doing that.
“If you analyse an organisation it’s probably the cleaning lady who will tell you what needs done. That’s what we want to do – ask our staff how we can do it differently, how we can be more efficient.”
The administration will today lay out plans to launch a comprehensive “engagement process” with staff and local residents to find areas of the council budget where money can be saved.
Public sector workers can take part in the process without fear of seeing their posts axed as part of the spending review.
Mr Thomson added: “We’re confident we have the right people in place. We want to be working with the officers we have who know how these services work and can identify the savings we need.”
