This is the moment local volunteers arrived on the scene of a trawler being gutted by a blaze in a north-east harbour.
The Tranquility caught fire on Thursday night and continued to smoulder into yesterday morning with fire crews remaining at the scene to make sure the vessel was not lost.
Firefights from Maud and Peterhead wearing breathing gear boarded it throughout the day to dampen debris and put out the remaining embers of the blaze while smoke clouds continued to billow through the harbour.
Lossiemouth man Scott Milne, the boat’s owner, said he was left devastated by the incident.
He and his family gathered at the port yesterday to inspect the work being carried out and to assist police.
Last night, he said he and the families his boat helps to support now faced financial ruin because of the fire he dubbed “suspicious”.
“I just can’t believe what has happened – I’m devastated,” he added.
“There’s been very little information about it, but apparently they fished a guy out of the harbour who is helping with inquiries. He isn’t a member of my crew, though. We don’t have any foreign crew and none of my guys were on the boat.”
A man believed to be of Polish origin was scooped from the harbour’s basin during the fire by the harbour’s pilot boat.
Police could only confirm that a man was in custody in connection with the blaze.
A spokesman said it was not yet clear if the fire was suspicious.
