A drug-fuelled north-east man has been jailed after admitting to a string of assaults on a woman and several police officers.
Erik Cameron, whose address was given in court papers as HMP Grampian, but whose online profile lists Inverurie as his hometown, was in possession of a lock knife at the time of the offences on August 21.
The court heard yesterday that Cameron, who was out on bail at the time of the offences for another series of assaults on police officers – during which he shouted that he “wasn’t shy about knocking out coppers” – had been partying with friends and took both cocaine and crack at a flat in Westhill.
When their supply ran out, Cameron made an early morning trip to Northsea Court in the Seaton area of Aberdeen.
He then grabbed a woman, from whom he had requested drugs, and punched her repeatedly on the face before pulling her to the ground.
Police were called by a passer-by who arrived to see Cameron standing over the beaten woman.
A chase ensued down School Road where he threatened and abused pursuing officers and struggled violently and kicked out when they caught up with him.
After threatening to “knife” the officers, he was eventually subdued by CS gas.
However, the 30-year-old had not finished his rampage and headbutted a police constable on the face while in custody at Kittybrewster police station.
He was then taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary suffering from drug withdrawal where he kicked a female constable in the arm causing her soft tissue damage which had to be treated with painkillers.
Defence agent Peter Shepherd said that Cameron had recently been in employment at an Aberdeenshire garage and had made a bad decision to go into Aberdeen that led him down a “slippery slope”.
He said that his client had “lost control” when trying to buy more drugs in his desperation to feed his addiction and now intended to serve his sentence and get back into the job market.
Sentencing the serial offender to 30 months behind bars, Sheriff Graeme Buchanan said Cameron had a “bad record”.
