“Despicable” thieves have raided an Aberdeen primary school and stolen equipment worth thousands of pounds.
Police have launched an investigation after the Holy Family Roman Catholic School on Summerhill Terrace was broken into earlier this month.
After forcing their way in, the thieves stole electrical items police confirmed were worth between £4,000 and £6,000.
The incident happened between 7pm on November 13 and 3pm the following day.
Police have now launched an inquiry and are appealing for anyone who knows anything about the crime to come forward.
Last night, local councillors were quick to condemn those responsible.
Councillor for the Kingswells, Sheddocksley and Summerhill ward, Steve Delaney, said he felt for the people affected most – the pupils who use the equipment.
He said: “Obviously I’m shocked to hear about this incident, we certainly don’t have any problem with school break-ins in this area, so it’s particularly disappointing.
“The value of the goods that have been stolen could have a significant effect on the education of the children at the school, and obviously I would ask anyone with any information to contact police and hopefully we can see some of these goods returned and also trace those who are responsible.”
Mr Delaney’s fellow ward councillor, Len Ironside, branded the thieves “despicable”.
He said: “Clearly this has been a targeted crime, because they have stolen electrical equipment.
“And I think it’s disgraceful breaking into a school and stealing from them, because ultimately the people who will pay for this will be the pupils, the teachers and the parents.
“The people who have done this are totally despicable and I hope that anyone who has any information can come forward and help police.”
Aberdeen City Council said it could not comment on the ongoing police investigation.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious or who has any information is asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
