An award ceremony took place in Aberdeen yesterday to acknowledge people who are winning their battle against addiction.
People attending the city’s Salvation Army branch were rewarded for making their way into education and training, supporting others and achieving personal milestones.
The event was hosted by charity Drugs Action, whose chief executive Luan Grugeon had words of encouragement for those who made it along.
She said: “It’s great to see so many of you here today, and you should share your story so that other people who are still in the addiction period can see that progress is possible.
“A lot of you have made it here today after long periods of difficulty and this should encourage many people.
“It’s also good that some people who have won awards could not make it here today because they’ve moved into education or employment.”
The Lord Provost George Adam was also in attendance and full of praise for the charity’s recovery programme:
“I’m hugely impressed with the work going on here and I’d like to congratulate all the winners.
“I’m proud to be the Lord Provost of a city where so much work and effort goes in to helping people recover from addiction.
“Some people have compared this ceremony to winning an oscar, but to win an oscar all you have to do is act or move a camera, you have turned your lives around.”
