They have penned arguably one of the biggest and catchiest hits to come out of Scotland.
And famed Scots rockers, The Proclaimers, ensured a packed crowd at Aberdeen’s exhibition and conference centre were treated to the nostalgic hit at the weekend, as well as catchy material both old and new.
Fans in their thousands braved the north-east’s wintry chill and headed to the Bridge of Don on Saturday to welcome the national icons to the Granite City.
And from the moment the support act finished, the crowd’s excitement was palpable.
The Proclaimers have dozens of hits, but it was impossible not to sense the yearning for the biggest of them all – ‘I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)’ – with the unmistakable “Da da da” chorus constantly echoing around the hall.
Taking to the stage, guitar toting identical twin brothers, Charlie and Craig Reid, strummed the beginning of ‘Letter from America’.
From that moment the crowd was seized with a nostalgic buzz, and the duo had their lyrics roared back to them with delight – the kind of full blown support that the band attracts, especially in their native country.
