The loud bang was followed by smoke billowing from an electricity substation on Forglen Crescent, Turriff. The fire and rescue service were alerted to the incident about 1.15pm. One appliance from Turriff station was sent to the scene, with six firefighters on board. The firefighters did not have to use any equipment and left the scene at 2.35pm, after an engineer arrived. Ben Ewen, who lives on the street, said: “No one in the vicinity was injured but quite a few residents had got a fright when the substation exploded.”
