An Aberdeen building society will host a Christmas-themed event to celebrate the success of its latest fundraising drive.
Yorkshire Building Society launched its nationwide Hour of Need campaign last year with the aim of raising £500,000 for Marie Curie by December 2016.
The funds were to pay for over 25,000 hours of nursing care for people with a terminal illness across the UK.
However, strong support for the campaign has led to the fundraising target being reached a year early, with the current total standing at more than £700,000.
Staff at the Aberdeen branch contributed £206 towards the campaign – the equivalent of 10 hours of Marie Curie nursing care.
To celebrate, the Union Street branch is hosting a “thank you” event on Friday, December 18, where people can come along and enjoy some festive treats.
Visitors will also be able to buy a set of the charity’s Christmas tree decorations, with the proceeds going to the Hour of Need campaign.
Lola Rowe, a Marie Curie hospice nurse, thanked everyone who contributed to the campaign.
She added :”It is an amazing amount of money that has been donated to date and is allowing myself and my colleagues to provide even more support to people in their hour of need.”
Nicola Scott, manager of the Union Street branch, said: “We’re so proud that customers in Aberdeen have helped us to make this the society’s most successful ever national fundraising campaign.”
