The north-east braced itself for a blast of wintry weather yesterday as a yellow warning for snow was issued across the region.
The Met Office had the alert in place from 9am until 11pm and nearly four inches worth of flakes fell on higher ground while two inches coated lower areas.
Lindsay Mears, a spokeswoman for the Met Office, said the flurries would not continue into the weekend.
She added: “There may be some more snow on Sunday, but there has no warnings in place yet.
“It’s going to look like a nice sunny day today but it will be quite cold.
“It will also be a cold night with frost going into Sunday.”
In Aberdeen and much of Aberdeenshire, temperatures will reach just 3C this afternoon before dropping to -1C at night.
The cold snap is expected to continue into Sunday before the weather becomes more “restless”.
Ms Mears said: “Next week is looking unsettled with rain and warmer temperatures of 8C or 9C, possibly reaching 10C by Thursday.
“It will also be a little windier with gusts of around 20mph.”
People in Moray will enjoy a climate similar to Aberdeenshire today but clouds will bring a very overcast Sunday.
The area however will have a much more settled start to the week with a dry Monday .
There will be plenty of sunshine on Thursday with highs of 10C.
