An Aberdeen bookmaker who died after a night out in the city has been described a “popular” and “caring” man.
William Hill’s district manager Ian Macdonald was found dead in Forresterhill Road by a passing member of the public in the early hours of Thursday.
It is believed the 55-year-old may have left nearby Murdos Bar when it closed for the night and pub staff have confirmed they are assisting police with CCTV for their inquiries.
Traffic was diverted as police put a cordon in place at a block of flats between Oldcroft Place and Ashgrove Gardens North while forensic officers examined the scene.
It’s understood Mr Macdonald’s family are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the cause of his death.
In a statement, they thanked the community for their support.
It read: “We are thankful for all the support and well wishes we have received.
“His family, friends and colleagues are devastated at this sudden and shocking loss and would appreciate privacy at this very difficult time.”
Mr MacDonald was said to be a “close friend” to many of his colleagues at the bookmaker he managed and was heavily involved in their community programme.
A spokesman for William Hill said: “Ian’s friends and colleagues at William Hill are in deep shock at his passing.
“He was an extremely popular member of staff and a close friend to many of his colleagues.
“His commitment to our community programme in Aberdeen was typical of his spirit and enthusiasm and he will be sorely missed by everyone at William Hill.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this time and we will be looking to support them as much as we can.”
Friends of Mr Macdonald also took to social media to express their sympathy to his family.
Samantha Cuthbert Anderson said: “RIP Ian, such a loving caring man, always there for us staff.”
