Donald Trump is in trouble with planning officials over two giant flagpoles at his Aberdeenshire golf resort.
The 80ft poles, which bear Saltires and stand outside the club building at Menie Estate, were put up without permission.
And now Trump has missed a December 4 deadline for applying for the retrospective go-ahead.
Last night, Aberdeenshire Council said it is considering its next move, which could be to order the controversial billionaire to remove the poles altogether.
Trump International Golf Links Scotland did apply for permission to put up different flags, but this was rejected by planners because they were too high and would be seen for miles.
Following complaints about the height of the flag poles that were eventually installed, officials were sent to inspect the site, and asked Trump to submit a retrospective application.
A council spokesman said: “He was asked to submit it by December and he hasn’t done that.
“The planning officers are discussing what to do in terms of enforcement. When I spoke to them on Friday they said they would be discussing their enforcement options but didn’t say when.”
The spokesman added that Trump might “potentially” be forced to take the poles down.
Complainer David Milne, whose home overlooks the course, said: “They are vastly oversized for the size of the building and the site.
“I don’t mind the Saltire because it’s the flag of Scotland – it’s the poles.”
Another local, Chris Edwards, also complained.
He said: “The erection of these massive flagpoles without planning permission just adds to the litany of retrospective planning applications on which the Trump Organisation seems to rely.”
Last night, Sarah Malone, executive vice president of Trump International Golf Links Scotland, said she was baffled anyone would object to them erecting the Scottish flag.
“We’re a five-star international resort – I cannot believe that us proudly flying a couple of Saltire flags in the middle of our golf property could be so objectionable,” she said.
“Given the proliferation of enormous wind turbines blighting our landscape there is something seriously wrong with our planning system if the council takes issue with a couple of flags.”
