An Aberdeen school has been praised for improving the way it teaches maths and numeracy skills to pupils.
Stoneywood School has gained a positive report after Education Scotland inspection earlier this year.
Inspectors said the school had performed well and there had been improvements in mathematics and numeracy across the primary classes, as well as staff working as part of a team to improve learning, teaching and the curriculum.
The report also noted that children’s involvement in school life was improving and they were now able to express their views through the Stoneywood “We Achieve Together” team and the recently-introduced house system.
The report further acknowledged that children who required additional support with their learning had now had their needs well met.
Aberdeen City Council’s convener of education and children’s services, Angela Taylor, said: “We welcome this report which shows that Stoneywood School is making significant improvements to the learning experiences of the children in the nursery class and the school.
“This is a very positive report which also demonstrates the hard work by the head teacher and her staff to improve the school.
“The whole school community should be pleased with the findings and we are confident the school will continue to improve and provide the best possible opportunities for pupils.”
Aberdeen City Council’s director of education and children’s services, Gayle Gorman, said: “This is a positive report which highlights the strong leadership of the head teacher and the hard work and enthusiasm of staff to ensure the school offers a positive and good-quality learning environment for the all pupils.”
