Police launched a major investigation yesterday after a woman was found injured near an Aberdeen football pitch.
Emergency services were called the woman was spotted on Great Southern Road, near the Inverdee playing fields, at about 8.30am.
The woman, in her 20s, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Construction worker Conor Blair was arriving to work at a nearby property on Abottswell Drive around the time the drama unfolded.
The 23-year-old said: “I heard sirens going off at around 8.30am and I took a look outside and saw the first police car.
“Five minutes later, there were a lot more of them and an ambulance showed up alongside a paramedic car.
“The next thing I knew, they had closed off the whole road.
“At first I thought someone had gone in the water, because there was an ambulance on the other side of the road, but then I heard someone had been assaulted.”
Police officers maintained a significant presence in the area during the day as they looked for witnesses in nearby properties
and a forensic team carried out investigations.
The surrounding area was cordoned off and one westbound lane of the Great Southern Road was closed until 3.15pm.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance said yesterday: “A woman in her 20s has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
“She is in a stable condition.”
Police said their inquiries were at an early stage and appealed for anyone with information to call 101.
