Organisers have pulled the plug on live music at Aberdeen’s Christmas Village, after just two complaints from local residents.
But while all future performances will be cancelled, every artist or band signed up to play will still be paid.
Several bands due to perform at the entertainment marquee, on Union Terrace, were pulled on Sunday after locals complained to staff.
Now Aberdeen Inspired has confirmed the live music element of the village will be discontinued, with all future performances cancelled.
The move comes just days after the organisation announced that attendance numbers to the village had so far soared well beyond expectation, with more than 330,000 visitors attending the event.
While the music programme has been cancelled, organisers have confirmed that bands and artists who had been booked to appear during the next fortnight will still be paid.
A spokesman for Aberdeen Inspired said: “The decision has not been taken lightly, particularly given the popularity of the live music over the course of the opening three weeks.
“Thousands have attended and been treated to a free programme which has showcased a diverse range of talent in front of appreciative Aberdeen audiences.
“We thank everyone involved in planning the programme, as well as those who have performed and were due to perform.
“We are very sympathetic to those [people who] had planned to take in some of the scheduled dates. We are disappointed for anyone who has missed out.
“As with any event of this size, there are operational issues which are addressed on a daily basis and the team has made a decision taking into account a variety of considerations.
“We are proud of what has been delivered at the Aberdeen Christmas Village in its first year, the biggest and best attraction of its type the city has had.”
