A serial sex offender who was jailed for downloading more than 10,000 indecent images of children was back behind bars last night.
Former oil worker Christopher Grant was locked up for nine months earlier this year for gathering more than 60 hours of footage which showed youngsters being abused.
At the time he was sentenced, the 32-year-old claimed he had been collecting the illicit films because he suffered from “social isolation” and “sexual frustration”.
And last night it emerged that 12 days after his release in July, Grant had downloaded two more indecent videos of young girls onto his mobile phone.
Yesterday the repeat offender appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted possessing the indecent images.
He also admitted breaching restrictions put on him as a sex offender by using another name online and not informing the police.
The court heard officers turned up unannounced at his home in Aberdeen’s West North Street on August 28 for a routine visit.
Fiscal depute Kelly Mitchell told the court that when they arrived Grant headed for his bedroom and was seen by the police attempting to hide something under his duvet.
Ms Mitchell said that when asked what it was he replied “nothing” but eventually handed over the Samsung device.
She said Grant initially told officers that the mobile was unable to access the internet, however when examined by experts they discovered a number of social networking apps.
The court heard Grant had downloaded Snapchat and was using a profile under the name “John Snow”. When asked about this alias he said he sometimes used the name, which he had taken from TV series Game of Thrones.
Police also discovered two graphic videos on the device which showed young girls aged between eight and 12 engaging in sexual activities.
The court heard the images were classes as being “category A” .
Representing the repeat offender, solicitor Iain Hingston said his client accepted that he had a problem and needed help.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan said there was no alternative to custody and said “to protect the public from further harm” he would be given an extended sentence.
Grant was sentenced to 15 months behind bars and will be under supervision for three years following his release.
He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life.
