Police launched a major investigation amid claims a shot was fired in a north-east housing scheme.
Officers were called to the Provost Rust Drive area of Aberdeen after several residents reported hearing a loud bang.
They closed the road to traffic for about six hours as they carried out inquiries and carried out forensic examinations at the scene.
One police investigator wearing special gloves was seen placing markers along a grassy embankment close to the road.
She was also seen placing a small black canister with a white lid into a brown evidence bag.
Officers also carried out door-to-door inquiries in the area.
Police have said that so far there is nothing to suggest anyone was injured in the incident.
A spokeswoman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that it is making inquiries into an allegation that a firearm was discharged on Provost Rust Drive near the junction of North Anderson Drive and Moir Crescent.
After police arrived at the scene, the road was closed to traffic for about six hours between North Anderson Drive and Manor Avenue.
Even after the traffic restrictions were lifted large parts of the area remained taped-off to pedestrians.
The incident was reported around 10.30pm on Wednesday.
Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
