Established as far back as 1843, Glencraft is one of the oldest businesses in the north-east of Scotland.
As well as providing beds, springs, mattresses and frames to dozens of offshore companies, hotels, and the royal family at Balmoral, Glencraft is also a registered charity.
It has helped hundreds of blind and visually-impaired people with employment over the years, and of its 45 current members of staff, 80% of them are disabled or disadvantaged.
In late 2009 the company was forced into administration after the city council removed a subsidy for the organisation.
But in 2010 Duncan Skinner, a former chief financial officer for Wood Group PSN, took charge and relaunched Glencraft as a social enterprise.
The bed factory and showroom was based at Wellington Road in Aberdeen for more than 40 years, but in April it moved to its current location, a much larger site close to the Lang Stracht in the city’s Whitemyres Avenue.
