While the heavy rain that has battered the north-east will largely dissipate this weekend, forecasters have warned icy conditions will follow in its wake.
The heavy downpours are expected to be confined to the Northern Isles from today.
But the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for ice throughout the Grampian area, which remains in place this morning.
It comes after fallen snow turned to ice overnight, creating treacherous conditions on the region’s rural roads.
Further into today, the region is expected to experience drier spells for much of the afternoon, with some spells of rain towards the evening, and snow in higher areas.
The picture improves tomorrow, with only some parts of west Aberdeenshire likely to experience heavier downpours.
Into next week, the area of low pressure will move eastwards to the North Sea.
As the week progresses, colder air will move in and temperatures will drop, bringing more ice and snow.
A spokeswoman for Met Office said: “From 6pm until 10am on Sunday there’s a yellow warning place as 10-20mm of rain is expected.
“Ordinarily this wouldn’t cause any problems but it may due to the already saturated ground.”
