A north-east animal sanctuary is appealing for help after flooding spread into central Buchan and damaged its site.
Willows Animal Sanctuary, which cares for hundreds of animals that would otherwise face slaughter, has launched a desperate plea for assistance after heavy rain fell across Aberdeenshire and flooded rural communities.
A spokeswoman for the charity, near Fraserburgh, said the weekend’s weather had been “hard going” for animals and people alike.
“It has been all hands to the pumps – literally,” she added.
“We sustained damage to some of our buildings from high winds and then of course this appalling rain which has caused terrible flooding to some of our buildings and fields.
“One of our barns was completely flooded to the point of becoming an indoor swimming pool. We had to evacuate the fields even though they have shelters and all the small animals had to be moved to safety.
“We managed to keep all the animals safe, warm and dry but it has been relentless.”
The sanctuary, which has been supported in the past by musicians Deborah Bonham and Paul Rodgers, is racing to find funds to pay for repairs and to replace the extra hay and feed used over the weekend.
