A north-east children’s charity is one step closer to refurbishing all the rooms at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital after receiving a generous donation from a law firm.
The ARCHIE Foundation is benefiting from a £9,000 boost from Stronachs LLP, with two thirds of the money invested into the charity’s High 10 appeal.
Launched last year to mark the group’s 10th anniversary, the campaign is raising money to revamp the hospital and make it a world-class facility.
Stronachs’ gesture will go towards step three of ARCHIE’s 10-point plan – Your Room – which aims to refurbish all 39 rooms within the hospital.
There is now enough funding to revamp 32.
Cassie Thompson, ARCHIE’s director of fundraising, said it was crucial young patients feel as comfortable as possible when they need to stay in hospital.
“Coming into hospital for treatment can be a distressing time for children and we want to make the experience as comfortable as possible,” she said.
“This generous donation from the staff at Stronachs will allow us to completely refurbish one of our 39 rooms into a brighter, happier and more child-friendly environment for young patients who sometimes need to stay here for extended periods of time.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported our 10th anniversary appeal and so far we have the funding to refurbish 32 of our rooms at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital.
“The generosity of our community is making a huge difference to the way in which we are able to provide care for sick children in the north of Scotland.”
Stronachs employees raised the thousands of pounds by taking part in a range of fundraising activities throughout the year including bake sales, and a sponsored hike up Ben Nevis.
The firm also provides children with a new soft toy for them to keep.
Carol Crowther, partner at Stronachs and chair of the firm’s social and charities committee, said: “Our employees choose one charity each year to support and the ARCHIE foundation has proven to be a cause which is particularly close to the hearts of many of our staff members.
“It has been a joy for us to fundraise and I’m very proud of the efforts of the team in raising such a significant amount.”
