The developers behind plans for three 242ft wind turbines near Bennachie say their project will benefit the community for the next 20 years.
Steven and Michelle Clark’s plans for the machines on land at Cornabo, Monymusk, have so far divided opinion by attracting as many opponents as supporters.
Should the plans be approved, £24,500 revenue from the scheme will go into a trust each year for local community groups to apply for grants from.
The public can comment on the proposal to Aberdeenshire Council on Thur1sday.
Many of the letters of objection relate to the siting of the wind turbines near such an iconic north-east landmark but the developers dispute their project will have an impact.
Farmer Mr Clark, of Kemnay, said: “I do not think the views will be effected.
“The wind turbines will be four miles away from Bennachie, across a river.
“Wind speeds have been terrific this year and it is a good place for them as they will not be effected by trees.
“This is not going to be a white elephant.”
Mr Clark said he had to diversify from cattle farming because of the high costs of looking after his herd of 30 pedigree Aberdeen Angus cows.
The community money will be signed over to trustees and will operate independently from Mr and Mrs Clark.
They hope it will benefit groups such as Garioch Gymnastics, the Monymusk football team and the local Scout group.
One of the letters of support for the application states: “Although I do not live in this area I support this application on the basis that this is a small development of wind turbines which will not blight the landscape and will provide funds for local area support.”
But another argues: “Wind turbines are a blight on the Aberdeenshire landscape and this site with its views from Cairn William and Bennachie will be ruined.”
Mr Clark added: “It is a great thing for the community.
“Another developer contacted us about selling the land and said they were going to put 10 turbines on it.
“We need to be using a mix of hydro schemes and wave power too.
“It is a worthwhile project.”
