Police in Peterhead are appealing for information following a number of break-ins to properties and sheds across the north-east since New Year.
Officers from the port are focusing their efforts in central Buchan after rural buildings and business in Strichen, Hatton and Mintlaw were targeted by thieves.
Last night, Inspector George Coordiner, of the Buchan Community Policing Team, urged members of the public to come forward with any leads that could help track down those responsible.
“Items have been stolen during some of the break-ins, however all of the victims have obviously been inconvenienced and distressed as a result of the incidents,” he said.
“I would ask that if anyone sees suspicious activity or suspicious vehicles in their area to please call us immediately on 999 at the time, or on 101 if phoning retrospectively, with information including dates, times and descriptions.
“I would also remind business and home owners to remain vigilant with and make sure vehicles, businesses and homes are locked, particularly when unoccupied and remain vigilant to any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood.”
Break-ins have plagued the north-east in recent months.
In one week, the problem became so bad in Banff and Macduff that a community council wrote to its MSP to ask for more police officers on the beat.
Twelve businesses and charities were targeted in one weekend including Macduff’s lifeboat station.
Anyone with information regarding any incidents should contact Police Scotland on 101, or the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 to remain anonymous.
