It is the classic Italian sports coupe that Jeremy Clarkson described on Top Gear as an “absolute stunner”.
But now it could be the end of the road for one 1997 Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo abandoned in Aberdeen as it prepares to be crushed.
The car, discovered in a car park on the city’s Holland Street, was produced by the Italian motor giant between 1993 and 2000
The model, of which the MOT expired on February 2015 and was registered as untaxed from December 2014, has now been marked with a council notice warning of it’s impending doom.
According to Aberdeen City Council rules, an abandoned car should be removed within seven days and will not usually be sold on as they are unlikely to be roadworthy.
The council explained: “The value of scrap metal has declined therefore scrap metal businesses do not buy old cars anymore. As a result people are dumping their used cars on the roads.”
Second hand 1997 models of the Coupe sell for as much as £4,000 online.
Last night, a trustee of the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford said they were “highly sought after”.
Kevin McCormick said: “I understand they are becoming more and more collectable.”
William Donaldson, whose flat overlooks the car park, said: “It’s a bit of a mystery because I’ve seen people trying to start it even earlier this year.
“It seems a shame because it looks like it would be a right laugh to drive.”
