Following an attempted robbery last week on a city newsagent, CCTV footage has emerged showing the shopkeeper desperately trying to protect his store.
Jolly Stores on Aberdeen’s Springhill Road was targeted by an armed man just a day after a man carrying a blade tried to rob another newsagent whilst dressed as Iron Man.
CCTV shows the owner, Rakesh Varanasi, 31, repeatedly spraying the shoplifter in the face with wasp repellent.
The robber continues to try and break into the till until Mr Varanasi uses the wasp spray can to push the man away.
It’s the second time in as many months Jolly Stores in Sheddocksley has been targeted.
Rakesh Varanasi, 33, has operated the busy newsagents for five years with his wife, Myra, 30, who is also seen in the video holding out her mobile phone.
Myra was left shaken and scared following the incident, which resulted in the man pocketing a bag of 50 pences, a £5 note and four £10 notes.
The incident happened on Wednesday at around 5.40pm and police are appealing for information.
The suspect is described as around 5ft 5in tall and of slim build.
He was wearing a blue hooded top with white stripes down both arms and across the hood which was pulled up at the time, denim jeans and black trainers.
The man is thought to have left in the direction of Greenfern Road.
A police spokesman said that no arrests have been made as of yet and the police are perusing ongoing inquiries.
