Thieves target north-east charity

Thieves have broken into the premiss of an Aberdeenshire charity and stolen equipment vital to the organisation’s work.

Bailies of Bennachie members discovered that their metal shed near to The Bennachie Centre, Chapel of Garioch had been broken into on Monday January 25.

Tools worth approximately £700 had been stolen including spades, mattocks, bow saws and work gloves.

The Bailies of Bennachie, a voluntary charity that helps to conserve and promote the natural and cultural heritage of the hill, undertake regular voluntary work on the regions most distinct elevation helping to maintain the paths countless hikers .

Mick Taylor and Harry Leil, both organise monthly voluntary work parties on the hill, discovered the break in.

Mick said: “We do not undertake work on the hill in January so had not been to the shed for a few weeks.

“We are very disappointed to find that all our tools had been stolen; we work on the hill because we care about it.”

Harry added: “The Police have been informed and that all the Bailies tools are marked with orange paint.

“Anyone with any information should contact the local police.

“In the meantime the Bailies will need to restock their tools and are interested to hear from anyone that can help them either by phoning 07799658209 or emailing bailiesofbennachie@mail.com”
