Police have cordoned off Aberdeen’s Union Terrace Gardens after a woman was raped in the early hours of this morning.
The woman was attacked in the sunken city centre park between 3am and 3.30am.
Police have been conducting enquiries at the scene during the day and the area remains cordoned off to the public to allow officers to resume their examination of the area in daylight tomorrow.
Chief Inspector Graham Mackie, Area Commander said “This was a serious assault on a woman in the city centre and we would urge anyone who may have been in the Union Terrace Gardens area at that time and who saw or heard anything untoward to come forward with any information they may have.
“I’d like to reassure the public that these types of incidents are unusual, however, we would encourage people to be vigilant.”
Two men were seen in the same area around the time of the incident and police are appealing for those individuals to come forward with any information they may have.
If anyone has any information they should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
