A north-east sex offender has been jailed for more than three years after attempting to rape a woman in an Aberdeen flat.
Patrick O’Neill was locked up after attacking his victim and sexually assaulting her in August.
He was also found guilty at Aberdeen Sheriff Court of supplying a class B drug.
O’Neill committed the offences while he was on bail which was granted last year.
The 40-year-old, whose address was given as HMP Barlinnie, appeared for sentencing yesterday.
O’Neill had previously been found guilty of the offences, which took place at 13 Logie Terrace on August 13, following a sheriff and jury trial earlier this year.
The court had previously been told that O’Neill had assaulted the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, by grabbing her head and slapping her on the head and body.
He also sexually assaulted his victim, causing her injury, with the intention of raping her.
And, on the same day, O’Neill was found to be involved in the supply of cannabis.
Sheriff Annella Cowan sentenced him to 42 months in prison, with a two-year extended sentence. She also placed him on the sex offenders register.
