Walkers from across the north-east have raised more than £47,000 for a national cancer charity.
The fifth annual Twilight Walk was held in Inverurie last weekend, and although organisers are still counting the donations they have hailed the event as another huge success.
A total of 755 people completed the 10K walk in aid of Cancer Research UK.
This year’s event was all the more poignant for one of the event organisers, Angie Shearer, after her auntie Sandra Morrison died of the disease last August.
Mrs Morrison, 50, worked at Tesco in Inverurie, and many of her family – including her two daughters – and friends completed the walk in her memory while other relatives, including her son and husband, helped marshal the event.
All walkers were also given a T-shirt emblazoned with a butterfly in memory of Mrs Morrison.
Miss Shearer, from Huntly, said: “The community spirit once again was outstanding and we are extremely grateful to everyone who took part and raised such an incredible amount of money towards Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
“The fundraising efforts and atmosphere on the night was incredible.”
Sponsor Graeme Ross, of bakers J&G Ross, said he had been pleased to see people of all ages, as well as more men, taking part in Friday’s walk.
He added: “We were delighted to be able to sponsor the Twilight Walk again this year. We would like to pay tribute to everyone who worked so hard in the planning, organising and marshalling on the night to ensure the event ran smoothly.
“There is such a fantastic spirit among the volunteers and participants, and everyone I spoke to said they felt a real buzz at the event. This event truly epitomises community fundraising.”
