There are only a few days left for young cooks from across the north-east to enter a competition to be crowned the best.
Celebrity chef Nick Nairn has teamed up with Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and North East Scotland College’s hospitality team to launch the Taste of Grampian Aspiring Young Chef 2014 competition.
The challenge, which culminates in a cook-off at this year’s Taste of Grampian event on June 7 aims to encourage young people to consider a culinary career.
To enter, budding young chefs aged 16-19 must come up with a menu and recipes for their chosen starter and main course which must showcase Scotch beef, Scotch lamb, specially selected pork and a local seafood.
Organisers have also called for menus to reflect what visitors to the region would like to sample to coincide with the 2014 Year of Homecoming.
The winner will be given two weekends of work experience at Nick Nairn’s Native restaurant and his cook school in Aberdeen, as well as £200, courtesy of QMS, to buy food preparation equipment.
Application forms are available from Carol Fowler at Prime Event Management on carol@primeeventmanagement.com or 01224 646488.
The deadline is Tuesday, May 20. The final will take place on June 7 between 10am and 2pm.
