Today a man has been charged in connection with a fatal flat fire in Fraserburgh in 1998.
The Press and Journal takes a look back at who Gordon Graham was…
Mr Graham, 43, perished when a fire broke out in his first-floor tenement flat in May 1998.
He was the head of the then notorious Graham family who were dubbed the Family from Hell by neighbours.
Mr Graham and his wife, Anne, moved to the north-east after they were evicted from the council house in Glenrothes, Fife, where they had put neighbours through years of torment.
They originally moved to Aberdeen with two of their sons and their two daughters before moving to Rosehearty and eventually settling in Fraserburgh.
In the year before his death, rumours had circulated that they were considering moving back to Fife.
At the time, Mr Graham declined to comment.
On the night of the fire, his wife was seen hanging out of the flat’s window at about 1.50am by a motorist. She was eventually rescued by the Fire and Rescue Service while 35 firefighters battled to control the blaze.
The property was left devastated, however, when its roof collapsed. Shops below, including a sandwich makers and a pet shop where a number of animals perished were also damaged.
No one was charged following an initial investigation into the incident.
But years later, detectives reviewed and reopened the case alongside that of another separate fire which claimed the lives of two more men.
Reports were filed to the Crown Office in 2012 and at the time then Detective Superintendent Malcolm Stewart said the families of the men “deserve justice”.
Until now, no charges have ever been brought.
