People who lost their caravans in the recent floods can now apply for grants from the Scottish Government.
Owners of static caravans which were lost or damaged in the aftermath of Storm Frank can apply for up to £1,500.
The money was made available through £2million handed to Aberdeenshire Council by the Scottish Government to help those worst affected by the floods.
Owners of caravans from across the whole of Aberdeenshire affected by the flooding can apply for the fund – with council having already received 50 inquiries.
One of the most significantly affected communities was Ballater, where the River Dee burst its banks and forced hundreds from their homes and businesses.
The village’s caravan park was almost completely destroyed, with more than 100 statics flooded.
Many static homes were even seen floating down the Dee and crashing into bridges.
Chairman of the council’s infrastructure services committee, David Aitchison, said: “It will be welcome news for static caravan owners that they can now access the funding to support them to recover from flooding and I encourage those who haven’t applied for a grant to take advantage of the £1,500 as soon as possible.”
Aboyne, Upper Deeside and Donside councillor, Geva Blackett, said: “Many of the owners have been coming to Ballater for many years and are very much part of the community so I am really pleased at this news as I am sure they will be.
“Hopefully this announcement will help get life back on track in Ballater and the caravan site ready for business at Easter.”
The council has so far processed 226 grant payments – 2015 for homeowners and 21 to businesses.
Those affected in Ballater will be directly informed of the fund, and if not should fill out a form at:
