While much of the country is basking in sunshine this weekend, the north-east looks likely to miss out.
Forecasters say the UK could be about to enjoy one of the hottest May’s on record, with temperatures expected to soar as high as 25C in London and the south-east of London.
This year’s record high of 22C – recorded in Aviemore on April 28 – was beaten yesterday by a high of 22.3C in the English region of Hereford and Worcester.
But people in the north-east should not expect to enjoy similar temperatures this weekend.
A cold front will past over the north of Scotland and delay the onset of summer by keeping Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire under a veil of cloud, although the area will miss out on the rain predicted for the Highlands.
However, temperatures will still be “above average” with the odd burst of sunshine.
Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey said: “We have got some warmer weather over the next few days. There’s high pressure over the UK but the north of Scotland is being clipped by a cold front.
“Scotland is not getting the warm weather – or not as warm weather – as the rest of the UK.”
She confirmed the region would not get the “mid-20s that London is looking at” and said it was there would be a cloudy start to the day in most of the region.
Temperatures are expected to be between 13C and 14C today and tomorrow.
Ms Maxey added: “Sunday’s looking similar, looking cloudy, and on Monday there’s some showers first thing in the morning. The temperatures are maintained, there’s no dip in the temperatures.
“A lot of Scotland is looking cloudy.
“There’s quite a bit of rain in Scotland over the weekend. Aberdeen may miss out on a lot of that but it will be cloudy.
“There’s an increased risk of showers as you head into the week.”
Despite missing out on the sunshine, Wendy Murray, manager of the Inversnecky Cafe on Aberdeen’s Beach Esplanade, said she was sure they would still be busy with people enjoying the milder weather.
She said: “We’ll be busy for the next couple of weeks, we’re coming to the busy season anyway.
“We will always have people walking the beach no matter what the weather is looking like.”
