A 42-year-old man has appeared in Peterhead Sheriff Court charged with the murder of a dad-of-five.
Barry Henderson appeared in court this afternoon where he was charged with the murder of Gordon Graham, 43, and the attempted murder of his wife, Anne.
Mr Graham died in 1998 after a fire destroyed his flat in Fraserburgh’s High Street.
Anne Graham was rescued by firefighters who spent over two hours battling the blaze.
None of the family’s children were in the home at the time.
Henderson, whose address was given as the Fraserburgh area in court papers, was read his charges in a private hearing.
He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.
The probe into Mr Graham’s death was reopened alongside an inquiry into a separate fatal blaze in Fraserburgh which claimed the lives of two men in the town in 2006.
Derek Youngson, 19, and his stepfather Derek Roy, 47, died in fire in a top floor flat at Kirk Brae around noon on Hogmanay 2006.
Detective Superintendent Malcolm Stewart, who headed the investigation into the reopened cases in 2009, said the families of the men who died “deserve justice”.
A date has not been set for Henderson’s next appearance in court.
