A man has been banned from driving after he wrote off a car on Christmas Day.
Ross Anderson got behind the wheel while nearly four times the drink-drive limit after “stupidly” agreeing to pick his sister up.
But on the way, the 33-year-old crashed into a barrier on the A96 Aberdeen to Elgin road, just north of Inverurie. The car was so badly damaged it has been written off.
A breath test showed he had 81 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcgs.
Anderson, of 23 Morefield Place, Ullapool, admitted the offence when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Sheriff William Taylor fined him £500. He banned him for a year, but allowed him to be put forward for a drink-driving course, which will reduce his disqualification if he completes it.
