A man was caught on CCTV stealing a cash register from an Aberdeen gym at the weekend.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, security cameras spotted the thief in the act at the Berryden-based Aberdeen Fitness and Combat Centre, a popular training facility which specialises in mixed martial arts, boxing and other combat sports.
At around 2.21am, the man, who was wearing a blue hoodie with blue trousers, entered the property and looked around the reception.
After lowering his hood and showing his face to the camera, he then proceeded behind the counter and examined the till, before rummaging through drawers and cupboards in an apparent search for a key.
After a few minutes, the thief seemingly gave up his hunt for a key, and opted instead to grab the register and make his way out the door.
However, he soon discovered the exit was locked.
Shortly after another search through the gym’s office for a way to open the door, the man resorted to using force to batter the door down and make his escape with the cash in the till.
Thousands of people shared the CCTV footage on social media over the weekend, and as a result it appeared last night that the man who appeared in the video had been caught.
In a statement online, the combat centre’s management thanked everyone involved in the hunt for the man’s identity, and said the individual is working to atone for his actions.
The management said: “We have resolved the situation, and the money is being returned.
“I have spoken with the person directly, and everything will be sorted over the next few days.
“I gave him an opportunity to try and fix this issue, and he took it. So that, I respect.
“We’re trying to handle this in the most professional manner possible, and the correct authorities will be involved.
“There has been a crime, therefore there will be a conviction.”
Police were not able to confirm if the man had been charged last night.
