This is the shocking moment a “reckless” north-east motorist is spotted driving a 4×4 with their windscreen almost completely covered in snow.
Just a tiny section of the front window was clear when the Nissan Qashqai was seen driving towards Aberdeen during morning rush-hour.
The video, which was captured on a dashboard camera, was recorded on the B9119 Westhill to Tarland road at about 8am on Monday, after heavy snowfall the night before.
Last night, road safety charities called the driver “reckless and selfish”.
The footage, which has been shared on YouTube, shows the dark blue 4×4 in a steady procession of traffic.
The vehicle is seen with its front window almost completely blanketed in snow, with just a small section cleared in front of the driver’s side.
It is believed the motorist continued for at least another six miles but potentially could have driven further.
Neil Greig, spokesman for the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said the motorist’s actions were putting lives at risk.
“The ‘letter-box’ approach to driving is always a bad idea,” he said.
“You should always take the time to clear all of your window before you set off in snow or ice.
“This driver is being selfish and stupid, they’re putting themselves at risk and putting others’ lives at risk too.
“No doubt the window would have been steamed up on the inside which would have also added to the problem.
“They wouldn’t have been able to see road signs or pedestrians – it’s making an already dangerous situation even more dangerous.”
But Mr Greig said drivers were increasingly being held accountable for their behaviour on the roads because of social media.
He added: “One of the great things about YouTube and the internet is it’s showing people they can’t get away with this – that’s the real power of social media.
“If the police can see these videos, it means they have the ability to track down these drivers and they can take action against
them which could ultimately stop them from driving.
“It’s illegal, and certainly if you do it these days there’s a good chance you will be caught out for it.”
Local councillor Ron McKail, who is also chairman of the Garioch and North Marr area committee, said he hoped the motorist is brought to justice.
He said: “Certainly, as road users, we all have a responsibility to make sure we have got total, all-round vision – if there’s not, it can lead to an accident.
“I would expect the police will now be fully aware of this and will hopefully be speaking to the driver and take the appropriate action.”
Police have confirmed they are aware of the footage and are looking into it.
