A boozy oil worker attacked his wife at their wedding reception after a row with his new mother-in-law.
Richard Muchowski and Dana Bain tied the knot at a small gathering with only two photographers as their witnesses in Skye.
They were persuaded to organise a party for family and friends when they returned from the island.
But the night turned into a nightmare for the couple when Muchowski ended up in an argument with his wife’s mother during the reception.
The 34-year-old later returned to his room at the Cults Hotel in the west end of Aberdeen and attacked his wife.
He was later charged by police who found the £70,000-a-year oil worker fast asleep in his Range Rover Sport outside their home.
Muchowski was sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.
Fiscal depute Alan Townsend said at a previous hearing: “A few months prior to the incident the accused married the complainer.
“The incident took place at a belated wedding reception on the evening of October 3.
“It started off as a disagreement at around 11pm. The accused was challenged by the complainer’s mother regarding something that had happened and he left the reception.
“At around 1am on the Sunday the complainer returned to her hotel room to wait for the accused. He returned shortly after and appeared to be intoxicated.
“It is stated that he was being aggressive and seized the complainer by her hair. They then fell on to the bed and he thereafter grabbed her by the arm, causing some slight bruising.”
Police were called and arrived at the scene to find Muchowski’s 4X4 vehicle was no longer parked outside the hotel.
They travelled to the couple’s house 11 miles away and found him sound asleep inside the Range Rover with the car keys in the back seat.
He was breathalysed and found to be more more than three times the legal limit with micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
Muchowski’s solicitor John McLoone, said the incident was completely out of character for his client.
He said the oil worker had been under a lot of strain because he did not want a big reception and felt forced into it.
The newlywed wanted a small gathering with immediate friends and family there to celebrate with the couple instead.
Mr McLoone said his client had not driven the car home and that he had only got into the back to sleep because his wife had the keys to their house.
The court heard the senior material controller would lose his job if he was banned from driving and would find it difficult to get employment due to the ongoing oil and gas crisis.
Muchowski previously admitted two charges – assaulting his wife and being in charge of a vehicle while over the drink drive limit.
Sheriff Alison Stirling deferred sentence for background reports until yesterday.
She said she noted that Muchowski had no previous history of domestic incidents.
She added: “But this is a very serious incident for a first incident involving an assault on your wife.”
He was fined a total of £1,400 and was given 10 points on his driving licence.
