Aberdeen Football Club fans are being given a kick in the right direction to help those battling cancer.

The Scottish premiership team has got on-side to support a new project being run in aid of Maggie’s Centres across Scotland.

The Maggie’s Kitchen Table Day fundraising scheme is encouraging people to get together on Friday with family, friends and work colleagues to help raise vital funds for the cancer charity.

And the organisers have made it clear that anything goes – whether in creating a spectacular dinner party, solving a giant jigsaw, crafting cocktails or having a chat with pals at a coffee morning.

The Dons have been long-standing supporters of Maggie’s Centres, and have done a number of match day collections for the cause as well as donating a variety of auction prizes.

Team captain Ryan Jack said he was thrilled to be supporting Maggie’s once again, and urged fans to get behind the cause to score a big win for the centres.

He said: “As a club we have a long standing relationship with Maggie’s and we’re delighted to be lending our support to their Kitchen Table Day fundraising event.

“The care and advice they offer those affected by cancer throughout the north-east is second to none and I would encourage all members of the Red Army to join the club in backing this fundraising initiative by hosting their own kitchen table event on Friday.”

Other backers of the Kitchen Table Day include golfer Colin Montgomerie and the Wood Group.

Funds raised by Maggie’s Kitchen Table Day will make a real difference to people who have been affected by cancer: £30 pays for an exercise class for up to 10 people; £50 pays for a centre visitor to spend an hour with a benefits advisor; and £65 pays for one hour of psychological support for a family.
