Aberdeen motorists faced traffic chaos this morning due to the transportation of a giant 108ft steel beam for the long-awaited Aberdeen Bypass.
The enormous girder started its epic 306-mile journey from Darlington to the Granite City last night, and is now making its way through the city centre towards Hatton of Fintray, before entering the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route site.
It has been described as “integral” to the bypass project, and will be transported through the city with a police escort.
The plan for the beam is to travel onto Riverside Drive, before turning left onto Holburn Street.
It was then scheduled to turn right at the Bridge of Dee roundabout, and continue up the A90 before reaching the Haudagain roundabout.
After the Haudagain, it will turn left on Auchmill Road before continuing on the A947 towards Dyce, where it will travel along Riverview Drive.
After leaving Dyce, the specialist vehicle transporting the beam will turn on the B977 towards Hatton of Fintray, before entering the site.
