A youngster from Orkney who has benefited first hand from the work of a national cancer charity is encouraging people to gather around their kitchen tables today to raise vital funds.
Emily Findlay is encouraging people to take part in a fundraising event, Kitchen Table Day, in aid of Maggie’s centres across Scotland.
The 20-year-old will be holding her own event – The Great Orcadian Bake Off – on the April 23.
But today, the Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen will hold their own bake off, with special judges Brian McLeish from Moonfish Cafe and Craig Wilson from Eat on the Green.
Miss Findlay said: “The Maggies Centre in Aberdeen has helped me and my family so much during the past few years.
“Maggie’s is such a relaxing place to go and was a great place for additional support.
“To anyone thinking about taking part in the Kitchen Table Day I’d say please do – no matter how small your event or contribution.
“And to anyone who is being faced with cancer and isn’t sure where to go – go to Maggie’s, I was diagnosed six years ago and it’s given my family such great support.”
Susan Sutherland, centre head at Maggie’s Aberdeen, said: “We would love Maggie’s Kitchen Table Day to grow, like Maggie’s has done in the 20 years since the first centre opened in Edinburgh, and help to raise funds but also the profile of the work that Maggie’s Centres do.”
“It would be wonderful if at kitchen tables across the country people might hear about Maggie’s and that it might help people to find their way to Maggie’s so that we can in turn support them at our kitchen table.”
