An Aberdeenshire man was given a rude awakening yesterday when a people carrier careered into his front porch.
The silver vehicle ploughed through the front door of his home after colliding with a HGV on the northbound lane of the A90 Stonehaven to Aberdeen road at Hillside, Portlethen.
The homeowner, who did not wish to speak when approached yesterday, is understood to have been in his bedroom when the crash happened at 10.50am.
Police, fire and rescue and ambulance services all attended the scene.
Two people who had been travelling in the people carrier were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with minor injuries.
The row of houses is just metres from the busy trunk road, and the impact of the incident left the front porch badly damaged.
Shards of wood, glass and plastic were left scattered along the man’s front garden.
One local resident who lives in a property neighbouring the home said they heard a “loud bang” from their kitchen when the collision took place.
Another neighbour, Carol Robertson, said it was not the first time an accident had occurred so close to their homes.
She added: “I wasn’t in when it happened. We actually only moved here five years ago and there has been a lot of incidents. People do speed along here, but what happened to today – I don’t know.
“I am a bit concerned because I have got grandchildren and they are out playing, usually in the back garden though. It is a worry.
“I am just thankful that nobody was hurt, that is the most important thing.”
An ambulance spokesman said: “We received an emergency call at 10.50am this morning for a two vehicle road traffic accident. An ambulance and a paramedic response unit attended the incident.
“Two patients were taken to ARI with minor injuries.”
Three fire appliances were sent to the crash scene, although a spokesman said the crews had just made the scene safe.
A police spokeswoman said: “A lorry collided with a van into a house at Hillside, just across from the old petrol station.
“Ambulance did attend and there were two walking wounded from the van.”
