Police have recovered Heroin and ‘Crack’ Cocaine worth an estimated combined street value of £130,000 – one of the biggest drug recoveries in the north-east in recent years.
A 33-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman are expected to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court today after the pair, from the Peterhead area, were arrested on Friday following an intelligence led operation.
Operation Banook was launched in October in response to local concerns about drug use, drug dealing and violence in the Peterhead and Fraserburgh areas.
Between April and December 2015 the number of drug dealers caught doubled, while the number of people caught in possession of substances has also risen significantly.
Chief Inspector Elaine Logue, Area Commander for Aberdeenshire North said: “This operation continues to target all those who wish to involve themselves in drug activity and organised crime. We will continue in our efforts to make the north-east of Scotland a hostile place to deal controlled drugs, and to ensure there is nowhere to hide.
“We continue to appeal to members of the public to report any suspicious activity by calling us on 101 or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
