A former Aberdeen footballer made a frantic dash to the Granite City in the early hours of Monday morning to witness the leap-year birth of his son.
Clark Robertson faced a nerve-racking drive to Aberdeen following a call from his partner, Karla Rae, at 12.30am saying she had gone into labour.
The ex-Don arrived at 6am, just an hour before his son, Cole Taylor Robertson was born.
He said: “I got the call at 12.30am and got in the car as soon as I could. I made it just in time.”
The newborn baby now has the very rare birthday of February 29.
Robertson, who played for the Dons from 2010 until last summer, said that, despite having great ambitions for his son, he wasn’t going to have much time to enjoy being a new father, because he had to travel back to Blackpool to play against Chesterfield.
But the player added that he was sure the dressing room would be full of congratulations.
Baby Cole weighed eight pounds, two and a half ounces and the whole family was there to celebrate.
Karla, 26, who models in Blackpool said: “We really wanted him to be born up here.
“We weren’t expecting him on February 29, so it was a bit of a surprise.
“But we’re all so happy that he’s finally here – though I am still a little bit out of it.”
Karla will recuperate with her baby and has chosen to make sure he doesn’t have to wait four years to celebrate his special birthday.
She said: “We’re going with February 28 as the day to celebrate every year. We can’t make him wait!”
