An Aberdeen man has been jailed after he kicked a bag that hit his girlfriend in the face so hard she needed surgery.
Jason Morrice “flew into a rage” as his partner began packing up her belongings after a heated row.
He kicked one of the bags, but his foot connected with her jaw, knocking her unconscious.
Morrice, of West North Street, Aberdeen, moved her to the living room and when she came to she was in “extreme pain” and had a “significantly swollen” jaw.
She was taken by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and after assessment the police were called.
She required an operation to have metal plates inserted into her jaw.
Morrice previously admitted culpably and recklessly kicking the bag on November 20 last year, and appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday for sentencing.
The 33-year-old had originally faced an assault charge, but the Crown later accepted it had been accidental.
The court heard Morrice and his partner had got into a heated argument, prompting her to pack her clothes into plastic bags and threaten to leave him.
Defence agent Iain Hingston stressed he had not hurt his girlfriend on purpose.
He added he was “hugely disappointed with his actions”.
But Sheriff Graham Buchannan said although he accepted it wasn’t deliberate, Morrice wasn’t “blameless” and had acted in anger.
He sentenced him to six months imprisonment backdated to December 7, when he was first remanded.
