Police probing a bid to burn down one of their own police stations arrested two people last night.
The force said a 41-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man had been charged in connection with a wilful fireraising at their Dyce office.
Firefighters were called to the station, which was unmanned at the time, after a blaze was discovered on the roof around 7.15am.
It was put out quickly, but police said later they were treating the incident at the building in Gordon Terrace as suspicious.
Adjoining Dyce School was closed for the day while officers searched nearby streets and both Gordon Terrace and Glen Gardens were cordoned off.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 7.16am. Two appliances were sent to a small fire on the roof of the police office. The fire was extinguished using hose-reel jets.”
Local mum Naomi Hurst said she only became aware of the incident when the police arrived at the scene.
However, she added she had heard a car speeding off earlier in the morning, and other residents had spotted a silver Volkswagen in the area.
She said: “The first thing we heard was the police cars showing up at 7.30am this morning in front of the house. We were taped in.”
Parents received a text message from Dyce School around 8.30am, informing them it would be closed for the day.
However, head teacher Marion Kerr sent an update in the afternoon, confirming the school would “open as usual” this morning.
The cordon around the area was lifted by 3pm.
Detective Inspector Stewart Drummond said: “We would appeal for anybody who was in the area of Dyce police office around 7.15 am on Tuesday and saw anything suspicious to come forward and let us know.
“We are particularly keen to speak with anybody who saw a silver Volkswagen motor car in the area at the time.
“We would like to reassure the public in the area that this would appear to have been a rare and isolated incident and thank them for their patience and assistance while officers dealt with it.”
Councillor Barney Crockett, who represents the Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone ward, said: “We are very lucky in that we have comparatively few negative incident here but sometimes these things can happen.
“We have to give credit to the police for how they handled it.”
Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
