Police are seeking witnesses to a crash on one of the region’s busiest roads which left one woman dead and another five injured.
Police, fire and rescue and ambulances services were all rushed to the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road, near the Toll of Birness, on Saturday at about 2pm.
Five people were cut free after the black Megane and brown Vauxhall collided, however a 57-year-old woman could not be saved and died at the scene.
The five casualties were rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment, with the conditions of more than one described as serious.
Police have now issued an appeal for witnesses of the crash to come forward.
Sergeant Neil Morrison, of the local road policing unit, said: “Inquiries into the cause of this collision are at an early stage however we would ask anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw either of these vehicles in the area prior to collision to come forward.”
The road was closed between Ellon and the Toll of Birness throughout the afternoon while a collision investigation team and vehicle recovery attended the crash.
Traffic was diverted northbound through Ellon along the A948 Ellon to Auchnagatt road; whilst southbound traffic was diverted along the A975 coastal route to Newburgh.
